The Role of Phototropic Records

We didn’t want to add more scandals to the list, since enough bad vibes have come from the Metapsychic explosion, but some persons recommended us to speak about Phototropic Records implication in this story. Indeed, people have the right to be informed about what’s going on in the backstage of the “goa business”, and we hope after that a complete “catharsis” of this movement will finally start.

Let’s expose the facts: Phototropic Records owner, Digitoxin did a big financial offer to Filipe, behind our back (of me and Martin) to sort out the Pandemonium! album called “Miunomednap!”, while the same album was programmed months ago on Metapsychic Rec. (back in march 2007 more precisely), almost ready to get released in our & Filipe’s own label, since we were one step closer to send it to the press factory…

In a few words, although Digitoxin knew already that the Pandemonium! album was since a long time a Metapsychic rec. release, unimportant this fact for him, he tried with his money to take out Filipe from his own label and his album together. Such unusual methods are not only improper, but unacceptable, to not say totally “illegal”. We used to see that phenomena more in the rock’n roll industry, and not in this small goa community, where this kind of action goes against our common “fair-play” mentality. And then Digitoxin self-proclaimed paradoxically his fresh new label as “friendly and free of insanity”…

We were even more disappointed and angry to learn it’s one of our artists (Nolax), that we helped, promoted and released one of his tracks in our last compilation, who spread the word to Filipe about this “illegal” offer, since he joined himself Phototropic Rec.

We were expecting, at least, from Digitoxin some explanations, if not a “sorry I didn’t know the album was going to get released for January on Metapsychic”, a mail or something which can explain us at least why he did this offer. But nothing, any answer, and worse thing, Nolax denied his indirect responsibility in this controversial affair. And it’s not a coincidence if you noticed that the owner, Digitoxin, was pretty unassuming about this subject. I think that his silence speaks more than everything else…

BUT, since we don’t know the exact content of the conversation between Digitoxin, Nolax and Filipe the day the offer has been putted “under the table”, we don’t blame Digitoxin nor Nolax at all in Filipe’s decision to quit Metapsychic Rec. After all, it was Filipe who wanted and finally accepted this offer, knowing perfectly all the repercussions of his departure in our label. After all, the truth is that, soon or later, Filipe would have left Metapsychic Rec. with or without those events.
